Rev. Kay Smith

In the winter of 2017, Zion welcomed its second-ever female pastor: Reverend Kay Smith. Pastor Kay comes to Zion with massive experience in ministry and counseling. She holds a Master of Divinity with Religious Education from Southeastern Seminary. She also holds graduate degrees in counselor education and school administration while her undergraduate work is in physical education and health. Rev. Kay has worked as a school counselor, church planter, associate pastor, youth minister and a Certified Congregational Coach. Pastor Kay also serves as a chaplain at Fry Regional Hospital.

Pastor Kay started ordained ministry within the Baptist Tradition; later, she was credentialed by the Disciples of Christ (Christian Church). Kay’s standing with the Disciples gave her the opportunity to serve congregations within the United Church of Christ through the UCC-Disciples ecumenical partnership whereby the two denominations are in full communion. Reverend Kay stands as an ambassador of this ecumenical relationship holding dual alignment within the denominations.

Consistory

Consistory is the policy-making body within Zion while there is not a congregational meeting in session; it is made up of the pastor, two elders, two deacons, the treasurer, and the secretary.  The current co-presidents are Jerry Green and Jo Murray. Acting Secretary is Leona Schell and acting Treasurer is Micheal Schell.

YOU!

As a member of the United Church of Christ, the specific church polity (government) which Zion ascribes to is the congregational system. Congregationalism ensures that each person has a vote and a voice on the matters which they believe in deeply. This makes the most valuable asset of the church you!
